Welcome Back, Oppo and Others!

Hello there. I’m PatBateman, one of the moderators here at Cigar Lounge. Some of you might know me from OppoLock, or Jalopnik, or TheRoot, or [insert Kinjaverse website here]. For some reason, I’ve also been put partly in charge of this joint, so I feel the need to go over the very loose ground rules.

So what IS Cigar Lounge? The short answer: it’s a virtual cigar lounge. Wasn’t that easy? Done, thanks for coming.

Here in the real world, a cigar lounge is where people come together to enjoy smoking cigars, maybe imbibe spirits, and definitely chew the cud. Those people come from different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, political views, and races. If you believe a stereotypical lounge is nothing but old conservative white guys talking about Reaganomics, you’re mistaken.

The picture above is of the Casa de Montecristo’s Private Lounge in the Brickell neighborhood of Miami. I’ve been there and shared the evening with a white attorney, several black former NFL players, an asian attorney, and a Hispanic federal agent. We all had different backgrounds and different beliefs, but we all got along together, even when we were discussing those differences.

What I’m trying to say is that we will ALL disagree with each other about certain topics, but we should disagree without strong emotions and CERTAINLY without personal attacks. You can’t get personal in a cigar lounge; it’s a place of learning and comradery, of civilized discussions and understanding. If you stick to that rule, everything will be fantastic. If you’d like the official rules, here you go. Thanks for being here, and I hope you can grow as a person from the experience.

TL;DR: Don’t start none, won’t be none. Smoke ‘em up if ya got ‘em.
