This honestly seems like a Cigar Lounge post more than anywhere else so here goes: a friend shared a picture of John Oliver with a caption "One failed shoe bombing attempt and I can't wear my shoes through airport security. 31 school shooting since columbine and no change to gun control laws"
Not the exact words but that was the gist of it. So I posted something to the degree that schools aren't the same as airport security checkpoints. For starters, checkpoint procedure has nothing to do with stopping people from getting guns or explosives in the first place. Second, after the shoe bomber, to the best of my knowledge, there was no change to explosives regulation. Then I said something about how checkpoints and regulations don't seem to stop people from acquiring and trying to bring contraband into places they shouldn't.
Then some smug asshole starts some retort where I only got as far as "white privilege" and "urban schools" and was so pissed at the presumption I stopped reading. Really, this shithead missed the point, which I kind of summarized above: airport security isn't supposed to stop people from obtaining explosives while gun control is supposed to keep people from getting guns in the first place.
