Unfinished draft: The life of a dating site moderator (mild NSFW)

at the over 30 singles nights IT’S BLEAK IT’S BLEAK IT’S BLEAK...see you next week

Back before I met my ex, I had been on a popular dating site for long enough that they made me a moderator. (For privacy reasons, I won’t mention the site by name, OK?) They sent me an email saying that, since I was apparently a model citizen, they thought I would be a good photo moderator if I was up for it, but forewarned me that it wasn’t for the faint of heart. While there is the occasional nude photo, most of the flagged images are simply not of the person.

We had three choices for a flagged picture. OK means the image doesn’t violate anything, Bad means it’s either something that isn’t the user or is too close (or other similar things that aren’t really allowed but aren’t overtly sexual), and sexual speaks for itself. There were abbreviations that we used to denote the specific violation, but sadly I don’t remember what they were. GIS, I do remember, stood for Google Image Search. Basically the photo was grabbed from a random Google search and used to make either a bot or catfish account.

I don’t remember specifically seeing any nudity, though I did see some stuff that was close. All guys, of course. Most of it was just random stuff that wasn’t of the person themselves, back before supplementary photos were allowed. I specifically one reported photo was of an FD RX-7.

Yeah, I never finished this. That’s all I’ve got.
