So I commented on a Jezebel post about race relations. Should have known that no matter what I said it would be met with opposition.
Yea, I’m a white male. I was born this way and there’s nothing I can do to change it. I know that I have a lot of privelages that POC don’t have. (i.e. not worrying about being shot by the police when I’m pulled over, or being pulled over for NO reason at all and then being shot and perceived as an immediate threat for being black)
In my view, there is only one thing that I can do on a daily basis like clockwork and as Michael Jackson said, I’m looking at the man in the mirror. I treat everyone with respect and kindness no matter their skin color. I’m not blind to skin color because I believe that to be a band aid for racism. We should recognize POC (any color for that matter) and understand where they came from. We should understand the world they grew up in that shaped their brain for the world of today. We should understand their hardships and their struggles, relate them to situations we have gone through, and empathize with it.
I just don’t like being stereotyped for my skin color. Like, since I’m white, I MUST be part of the problem?? I MUST be a racist and hate black people since I’m white?? Please......
I’m up for an adult discussion of the issues and the causes behind them. What I’m not up for is being lumped in with the KKK and asshole, racist white people, that should be put in jail for murdering black people while on the job. I’m not them.
