Been thinking about modifying the rules a bit.

There's a standing rule around here about directly re-posting articles from the CL and I've been having a second thought about it. I think we should just straight up get rid of it, mainly because it's practically impossible to enforce. When it comes to issues on this blog, there are some useful tools in our moderator toolkits to enforce the (very small) set of rules here.

However, when it comes to the Kinja "feature" of reposting anything from any blog to any other blog you have authorship on, then there are only two tools in our toolkit. We can either bore the offender into submission with a long winded condescending diatribe about how immature and childish it is to break unenforceable rules, or we can ban the offender. That's it. Nothing in between. And neither of those things could actually enforce the rule. It's like trying to do an engine swap using nothing more than a plaster spatula and a nail gun. Besides, making unenforcible rules and spending energy trying to enforce them is the federal government's job.

I put that rule in the original charter preemptively to deal with some potential situations that have never materialized. At this point, as so long as the subject matter of the post is acceptable to the blog you are re-posting to, then I don't see any point in keeping that rule around.

But those are my thoughts, what are yours?
