I can’t help myself. I have a unhealthy admiration for the unloved Ford Escorts <3 This has to be my most favorite Restomod yet and it happened by accident.
I was scouring eBay for a nice minty XR3 Hotwheels to add to my collection. I found one for a sweet price. But, the pictures made the wheels look not quite right. I figured that the photo angle was just unappealing and I took a flier with a cheap buy-it-now. When the car arrived to my mailbox, I was pretty disappointed. While perfectly mint, the rear axle was uncrimped to the metal chassis and the front axle was laughably too long. On top of that, the rivet post and hole were off by about 2 mm which made the whole car look like garbage up close.
Thankfully, it was cheap. I drilled that rivet straight away and gave this amazing car a proper makeover. I ditched the lovely blackwalls and replaced them with Falkens at each corner. Changed the headlights to yellow and did some simple detailing here and there. I installed custom axle tubes to get the ride height just about perfect and fiddled with the alignment against the rivet post to JB Weld the car back together nice and straight.
Overall, this was a great and unexpected project. :)
