Diecast sensory OVERLOAD! My facebook feed popped up last week with one of those “you might be interested in...” events. Oh my dear god it could not have been more right.
Pictures below are of the “Old Toy Show” in Bennington Vermont. A 70 table multi-vendor extravaganza of old diecasts, models, Tonka trucks, trains, and some action figures. But, seriously, it was almost 90% model kits and diecast cars. Absolute heaven. Just boxes upon boxes and tables after tables of cars. The money in my wallet flew out at an alarming rate. Thankfully, I had just got my payout for a fantasy football pool for last season. This shopping spree is dedicated to you Christian McCaffrey. You’re a boss and carried my team most of the season. <3
The $3 at the door fee is totally worth it. My wife was amazing enough to tag along and even picked out a car (& she’s super excited about that).
Vendors and cars everywhere...
I’m not into kit building... but OMG they had something for everyone.
This is where I died. A whole table of mint Tomica. Vendor was a nice fellow from around Albany NY and was pretty excited that I was so damn excited to find Tomica cars. Half of my money went here.
Prices were stupid reasonable for most vendors. Just an insane amount of Johnny lightning cars everywhere. I splurged on the Tomica because I can’t get them anywhere except online. On to the HAWL...
I found three more JL Demo Derby cars that I didnt have for my collection. Price was fantastic at $5 ea. Other JL’s were also $5 ea and I love the Mexican Ralley Chrysler 300. Picked up 5 Tomicas with a common trend being silly little hatchbacks <3. The campervan with matching trailer is just amazing. The most expensive car I bought at $17.
My wife and I are huge fans of Initial D. The Yellow FD is driven by her favorite character. She got super excited about finding this and of course it was going to come home with her.
I only found one vendor that had loose Tomica/Pocket cars. Didn’t matter, they were minty and amazing. Snagged a Lotus, Corolla, and a Skyline for around $7 ea. He also had minty fresh vintage Playart cars & the Fiat + Ford Capri came home with me. JL Toyota LandCruiser was a must-have as well. Finally, the BMW M1 was the first car I fell for when I walked in the door. But, I didn’t want to be too hasty... I snagged it on the way out :)
As if that wasn’t quite enough diecast goodness... While in Bennington, we noticed that Rte7 is a straight shot north to Rutland Vt. You remember the Insanely huge Diecast Collection that *Insert Amusing Line Here* shared with us?
Yep... it’s in Rutland Vermont now :) I was dry on cash, but the dude takes plastic so why not? A nice 1 hour detour on the way home was in order. I was honestly shocked to find out that the entire collection is out in the store for people to pick through. My wife did some clothes shopping while I just dug through everything. The best part? The one car that I absolutely had my heart set on finding was there and the shop owner’s prices were fantastic. This was about $1 per car. I am psyched. Looking forward to snapping pics of all of these.
Not sure if these were part of the original collection. But, I snagged them anyways. Dave Blaney’s Fast and Furious NASCAR and a super rad Ford Falcon Delivery van.
I’m diecast-exhausted at this point. What a crazy day. If anyone in the New England area can catch the Old Toy Show in the fall, it’s totally worth it. :) I wore my LaLD shirt with pride and told a few people about the site.
