A Tale of two SC/Ramblers

AMC has always been one of my favourite N. American manufacturers, due to their willingness to climb a little farther out on the quirkiness branch than most other mainstream automakers.

Therefore I’m always on the lookout for diecasts of their various models. You may have seen my garage sale post on Sunday where I mentioned finding a carded JL Classic Plastic AMC SC/Rambler with just a very slight amount of card damage for CAD$ 5.00. The really weird thing about finding it was that one week earlier I had purchased the same car (uncarded) on the bay of e’s for about CAD$ 15.00 + shipping.

The ebay purchase arrived yesterday, and lo and behold, it’s not the same. Same casting, but different tampos. The Classic Plastic will still remain unliberated, however...

The uncarded one has drag-style wheels with raised white-letter Goodyear tires in staggered sizes, as appropriate for a Super Stock drag racer. It has a red stripe running down the side above a wider blue rocker-panel stripe, with a large “SC/Rambler” and “Hurst” logo tampos on the leading edge of the doors. It has a tampo with “390” above an elongated AMC logo just behind the front marker light.

The carded version has classic “Officially Authorized” Cragar 5-spoke wheels with blackwall tires in the same size at all four corners. It has a very wide red side stripe, a smaller version of the “SC/Rambler” and “Hurst” logo tampos positioned lower than on the other casting. It also has the same “390” and AMC logos at the leading edge of the fender. It has a blue rallye stripe which the other casting is missing, and both have a Super Stock-style hood scoop with “AIR” tampos.
