Flea Market DLM - Devastating Natural Disaster Edition

As we hit almost dead centre in the 2015 Hurricane season (Jun 1 - Nov 30), and as Tropical Storm Erika leaves a trail of death and destruction in its wake through the Caribbean, let’s take a moment to pause and enjoy the model Mercury chose to name after the Pacific Ocean’s alpha storm, the Mercury Cyclone.

For today’s DLM we have the Johnny Lightning Street Freaks series, #17 - Black with Flames ’71 Mercury Cyclone, presented in, yup, you got it, black with (red and yellow) flames.

1971 was the penultimate year for the Cyclone, which had started out in 1964 as a performance model of the Comet named the Mercury Comet Cyclone. In 1968 “Comet” was dropped from the name and it became a standalone model. GT, Spoiler and Cobra Jet variations were available at different times. In 1971, it was integrated into the Mercury Montego line as their performance model before being discontinued after the 1972 model year. (wikipedia)
