Since I went down south for another family visit, it only seemed fitting that I bring some old cars back with me. Again, this isn’t all of the old collection, but it’s a pretty good hawl all the same.
Gotta give Mattel credit. These two still work. I have the domed sportscar one where the whole top rotates, but I can’t find it. Also, that one seems to have stopped functioning. Still, pretty cool to see these again and see they still do the thing.
The biggest surprise from my old collection was that I had multiples of several things. Either I lost them and got replacements, or I just wanted new ones when the old ones got beat to all heck. But this of course raises a deeper question: Why did I want two of such a lame car?
Now on to some Matchboxes. They did quality work with rich snobby guy cars. You can almost smell the Grey Poupon from the Rolls, and you can practically hear the Mercedes driver sniffing cocaine.
Wind splitters. That’s what they’re called, anyway. They’re clearly BMWs. Also I just love those wheels.
Now this might actually be something of a find. It’s in weirdly good shape despite all the stuff dangling off it. The steering wheel is still there! It’s like the only fantasy casting I have, and I have half a mind to auction it off.
I have another one of these back at the house, but I thought I’d bring this one along. Apparently it’s a kind of Celica? JDM AF yo?
Last time around I brought Cole Trickle’s Mello Yello car up, making it the one vintage car to go in Project:Screentime. Someone here said I should bring Rowdy up to join him, so here it is.
Yet another car I have two of. They’re both in pretty good shape, and eBay also says they’re worth a bit. In addition, I’m suddenly getting into orange as a color for cars. At this size, it’s good to make a bit of a splash.
This one feels a little chintzy even by 80s Hot Wheels standards. One of my earliest plastic-chassis cars, and that light grey color down there really screams “I’M CUTTING CORNERS!” Still, I don’t have any of this model of car, and something about it still kind of charms me.
The reason I’ve been after a Gen 3 Camaro is that I’d like to recreate some of the cars the grownups in my life cherished when I was a kid. This is (apparently) a Yatming Jaguar XJS. My uncle had one of these in white and drove it for years before someone hit him head on. He survived, the big cat didn’t. Thinking I’ll paint this one white, give it a detail job, then dirty it up a little in that old Jag’s hono(u)r.
And lastly:
I don’t know why I left this one home last time. Look at that big beautiful bastard. I’m thinking now I’m gonna keep this unless it’s somehow worth a pile of money. I definitely remember this one from my wee days.

Also, you may have noticed that I painted Project:Validation today. Looks all right. I’m wondering how to do the lines right, since the road stripe pen I have is kind of unreliable. We’ll see.
