The crown jewel of my collection
Some backstory. I'm in love with Le Mans. This led to me being in love with the Porsche 917 of all variants. It's so insane/awesome that it just has to win you over.
Your feet are the crumple zones. This car is about the size of a miata with a flat 12 screaming behind you. The Porsche 917 held the speed and distance records at Le Mans for almost 40 (!) years. NUTS.
It still holds the record for fastest lap time in the race. In 1971 there were 33 917's in the race. Because it was winning everything. Of course race rules changed (to stop the 917 dominating everything) and the 917 was basically too powerful to meet the regulations. So it went to Can-Am.
This is where porsche decided they would throw some turbos on it. Because why the hell not. This is where the monster that is the 917/30 is born. To this day is the most powerful race car ever produced. The 5.4 liter flat twelve with the two turbos was pumping out 1,580 bhp with 39psi of boost. NUTS. 0-60 in UNDER 2 seconds, top speed over 260mph. Man Can-Am was where it's at.
Anywho, back to my baby now that you know why I was so excited to find it.
Just have a gander:

With its bigger brother in my book "917X17". It's an amazing book with artful shots of 917s along with the history and interviews from the drivers. It was like $300...so...yeah...I like 917s...http://www.bullpublishing.com/shop/item.asp?…
