Paint Stripper containment device

I’ve been stripping a *lot* of car bodies lately, and keep having the problem of where to put the body I’ve just covered in noxious aircraft stripper. Also I seem to regularly manage to miss spots brushing it on.

To solve that I bought the empty gallon paint can & roller screen at Home Depot for around $10.

The screen is designed to hook onto the can for use with a small paint roller, but having it stick out the top like this meant I would have to pull it out of the stripper every time I wanted to seal the can.

Instead I roughly measured, then bent the end of the screen forward just above the bend you see in it in the first picture. This allowed me to cram it in the can as shown. which gives me room to hang diecasts off either side of it.

Then I just poured a quart of Aircraft stripper in the bottom, and the can was ready. I bent up some long S hooks out of wire with a wider loop for the top and a narrower one at the bottom. Hook the bottom loop around a windshield pillar and pinch it closed so the body doesn’t slip off, then just dunk it in the stripper, swirl it a round a little to ensure full coverage, and hang it from the rack. The excess stripper can drip back into the can instead of making a nasty puddle elsewhere, and this method holds a lot of cars(there are 7 in the can in the above picture).

Remember to wear gloves! this stuff is nasty and can even melt through disposable nitrile gloves.
