Big Red Rotator WIP

I haven’t forgotten this place, but posting here has seemed like too much of a hassle with everythign going on. So I mostly just post to instagram these days. This is my latest big work in progress. It is a Greenlight Workstar chassis with a DCP wrecker body, that I am converting into a rotator.

I had to modify the frame back of the 2nd rear axle to add a 3rd axle (with wheels stolen off another greenlight that was converted to single axle), move the exhaust stack, and swap in a smaller fuel tank that didn’t protrude past the back of the cab.

Stage two was cutting up the boom unit, removing the wheel lift, and fabricating the rotator assembly. This is all styrene, except the round base it is sitting on is a cut down glue cap, because it was exactly the right size.

I still have trimming and fiddling to do before primer and getting this smooth. The rear service body and rotator are being repainted to match the shade of red on the cab. The single set of front cabinets on the service body may get modified to have outriggers there if I get ambitious.

I have ordered a bunch of custom decals, including ones that label this as a rotator, so I need to actually finish this project.
