Or ThrowBack Friday. Another cast I found at my parent’s recently. My beloved Renault Alpine A310. Play worn. With a reason as this one had to fly all over my room to catch up with all kinds of sinister MBX’s. Little did I know this wasn’t an actual police car but hey: I was like 7 or 8 years old.
Wait: why wasn’t it an actual Police car? Because the stickers on it seem to say it is from la Direction centrale de la Police aux Frontières, or Border Patrol in English. And that is a bit odd. As I’m not so sure why a border patrol needed a sportscar, that’s more for Highway Patrol, right? And yes: there was an Alpine A310 used by the Gendarmerie. Not just the 2nd gen V6 you see here but also the rarer (and actually prettier) 4-banger:
That Police aux Frontières though uses MPV’s like Ford’s Galaxy and bigger vans like Renault’s Master. But it’s a child’s toy so it’s all about fantasy anyway. That’s why Majorette had a doctor’s edition as well (!).
Then again: why on earth would a kid fantasize about driving a car from Border Patrol? And there’s where it gets interesting. Because of Majokit! Majokit you say? Yes. I doubt many of you ever owned it but Majokit was Majorette’s city-”system”. It consisted of pieces to construct your pavement, small houses, traffic lights and fences. And one of the Majokit sets was one of a customs post: set 706. Accompanied by a... A310!!!
And that 706-kit I got when I was way younger. I had quite a few of these Majokit sets actually. And loved them dearly. I used totally out of scale HO Faller houses with ‘m as well which I borrowed from my brother’s Fleischmann train set. And had a blast.
I’ve got that Majokit stuff laying around somewhere, it’s about time to take it out and start recreating stuff a bit with my kid. This A310 though has had better days and is ready for some resurrection. It’s rear axle is shot, stickers only appear to have survived on the driver’s side and the paint is worn. The blue-ish glazing is great and unscratched though.
The color probably will be blue again. Question is just: Will it need a flashlight on it’s roof for it’s future purposes? And how on earth am I gonna find Gotti-wheels in this scale???
C’est ca! I’ll try to come up with a more surprising cast next week. And yes: that’s an MBX 205T16, also dug up at my parent’s. With a terrible paint job by an 8 year old. Bon Week-End!!!
