Last week I showed a Porsche 908 while I knew Philipilihp was gonna show a 907. And I didn’t have a 907. Or at least: I thought I didn’t. But I was wrong. And that’s a good eye-opener: I have too much casts. Probably.
But whereas Philip showed us a Spark in 1/43, I’m showing you two 1/64s. From Kyosho.
And these are two Le Mans contenders. Both entered by Porsche System Engineering and it’s amazing to see what Porsche System Engineering brought to that same Le Mans edition besides these: A 906 and a 910.
The #40 car was driven by German Gerhard Mitter and Austrian Jochen Rindt. They didn’t finish though but in lap 103 a failing camshaft forced them to retire.
The #41 managed to make it through the 24 hours though. Piloted by Swiss Jo Siffert and German Hans Herrmann they finished 5th, being the first Porsche.
That might not sound that impressive but keep in mind this was a P2.0-class 2-liter car battling agains P(+)5.0 class cars: Ferrari’s 330 P4 with a 4.0 V12 and Ford’s GT40 (the winner) with a 7.0 V8 engine. That’s over three times the displacement of the 907!
Of course it was a class win but it became clear for Porsche that the ultimate commercial success would come from an overall win, not just a class win. And that knowledge would lead to the monstrosity of the 917.
These are from Kyosho’s Porsche Minicar Collection IV. There’s 3 907s in this collection but I only have these two. The 3rd one is a plain silver one. As if one would take these one the roads...
I can imagine doing that with a 904, even a 906 but the 907 is a bridge too far for that I suppose. Can you imagine parking it backwards somewhere with that tail?
And that’s it for today! Not sure if we’ll see many 907s/908s/906s today but maybe some of you will show HW’s latest 917LH a bit more in detail.
