Following yesterday’s French Friday, today is Swedish Saturday and for the first time, I’ve got some Saabs instead of Volvos!
Ok, so these may be GM era Saabs that aren’t quite so deserving of their ‘Born From Jets’ title, but they’re pretty awesome all the same. Here we have the YS3E 9-5 and the OG 9-3 in approximately 1:72 scale by Hongwell Cararama.
Again, I am incredibly impressed by the quality and attention to detail in these tiny Hongwells. Period correct three and five-spoke OEM alloys, painted on rear defrosters, proper badging and lighting all around, separate lenses for taillights, halfway obscured front windows to appear partway open, these two have everything! The only complaints I have are the somewhat imprecise castings of the taillights and the heavy application of paint on the black YS3E, but that’s just nitpicking.
What of the jet, I hear you ask? Well, regrettably it’s not a Saab Gripen as Matchbox’s Sky Busters lineup has never had one of those. Instead, it’s a similar delta wing+canard aircraft, the venerable Eurofighter Typhoon! Not sure of exact scale, it’s just the common 4-inch size MBX uses for its airplanes.
Conveniently, the (very) Swedish MBX V60 decided to show up for a scale comparison!
Well, that’s all from me this Swedish Saturday! Have a great weekend, thanks for looking, and see you around LaLD!
