A surprise release from Otto Models the other week, this is the Mercedes-Benz 300E AMG.
It’s a recolor of their previous release of this same car, which was black with black wheels. This one instead is done in the traditional Mercedes silver with the silver wheels to match, and even though I’m biased, I must say this colorway looks better. The sinister appearance of the previous model is toned down in favor of a classier, more elegant look. The silver wheels better show off the iconic design of the old-school AMG wheels. I know Otto has done numerous models of similar cars (the wagon, Hammer, 560SEC) but they’ve all been black-on-black, so it’s nice to get something different this time around.
Otto dropped this model a couple weeks ago out of nowhere. As I normally do every morning, I checked my e-mail and found the announcement that it was available in their online shop. Limited to 250 pieces, these went fast. And by fast, I mean they lasted no more than three or four hours after I received the notice. I liked what I saw, so I quickly put in my order for one (or maybe a handful) without hesitation.
Obviously, a great decision. I’ll be the first to admit I know nothing about this car, and I’m not going to copy and paste facts from Wikipedia here. All I know is that it looks good and that the right-side mirror is larger than the left. Despite being an oddball in my collection as it stands right now, it’s nothing short of awesome. The boxy design of Benzes from this era is truly timeless, and something I plan to expand on moving forward. There was supposed to be a Hammer to accompany this beast for this photoshoot, but that package is stuck in limbo at the moment. Hopefully it shows up soon.
