I popped into a Toys ‘r’ Us as my friend’s kid has a birthday this weekend. Picked up what I thought was an ideal toy for a present (kids these days are so spoilt for choice when it comes to toys), then ducked into the diecast section to take a quick peek. Wasn’t expecting much as peg-warmers are usually all over the floor in this section. But surprisingly I saw the new Heritage series and it looked as though someone had already cleaned out the Datsuns (510 and 240Z) so I was disappointed. A few of the other unpopular ones remained but then this little rabbit was hiding at the end.
This Hare Splitter costs $10AUD so it was damn expensive but I bought it anyway to see what the fuss is all about with this Series (I’m sure it’s just over the Datsuns though).
Scale-wise, I feel like it is bigger than 1/64 but it is nicely detailed along with an opening bonnet. The weight and paint-job makes it feel like a “premium” diecast.
I had an old, beat-up Matchbox Superfast version, as in the VW Golf, so naturally had to take a photo with the pair.
So here are some quick shots. Now, if only the Datsuns came out of hiding.
If you squinted your left eye, turned your head 90 degrees, it almost looks like a Datsun Bluebird. There was more than one of these with wrong cards, so I imagine somewhere in the packaging process, someone or something made a boo-boo.
