K Day HAWL From The Free-For-All

Let me start this off by saying my local K-Mart is a mess and a depressing place to go. That being the standard (or lack thereof), today was a complete mess.

There was absolutely no order or organization. All of the cases had been opened prior to being brought out. No numbers were passed out or anything to prove who got there first. It was just one scalper’s word against another’s.

The lady who brought the cases out started it by asking who got there first. There was a minor disagreement between a few people, but it was worked out quickly. The lady then handed the first two cases over to the first two guys in “line.” As they started to pull cars out and just take as many as they wanted, others began to come up and complain. It was at this point that the K-Mart employee decided she no longer gave a you-know-what and just started giving cases to random people to ravage through (the guy who got there last was the third person to get a case). As she handed them to people, she repeatedly stated they were all identical.

Luckily, I was able to grab a case for myself and my 3yo Porsche loving daughter to go through. There was one ‘55 Chevy Gasser per case, so I was able to grab that, as well as a full set of the exclusives and other first-to-markets. My daughter picked some out for herself (new GT3 and pink Chill Mill) and her younger brother who was having a nice quiet morning at home with mommy (he was still asleep when we left).

After we had picked our 20 to be able to get the mail-in Ford C.O.E., we proceeded to the register. On the way, my daughter wanted to look at the Halloween costumes. While walking through that section, I came across something peculiar...

Yes, that’s a Halloween set shipper with a bunch of Gran Turismo series mixed in, and multiples of every car at that. I guess K-Mart counts as hobby-exclusive since they do the K-Day event? Anyways, here’s my part of our HAWL:

The most important part, of course, being the ‘55 Chevy.

A strange thing about my K-Day was that no Super or regular Treasure Hunts were found. Out of the 8 or so cases they had. And they were all pre-opened and nearly identical. This leads my inner detective to conclude that someone opened all the cases prior to the event, took all of the Treasure Hunts and Supersee out, and then distributed stuff evenly across the cases again so that people would just take a case and go, and no one would be fighting to get a Super or arguing over cases or hogging regular TH’s or anything. I have no proof of this, but the event was very odd and unlike any previous case K-Day I’ve attended.

Either way, I got what I was after and my daughter had fun getting to go through a whole case of Hot Wheels for the first time. Having fun is what’s most important after all, right, lol? Hope everyone else had a good K-Day!
