My First K-Day, plus SO much more!

Today, I went to my very first K-Day. The Kmart I went to is pretty much the last one within an hour of me, so it was really the only feasible option.

The procedure here was simple. Everyone gets a ticket, tickets are drawn, and you get a case.

There were 25 cases and about 28-29 people there. Mostly adults and teenagers, with one or two young kids.

I was the 5th one drawn, so I got one of the first few cases.

After we got our cases, we were allowed to open them immediately and we could take what we wanted.

There were a bunch of big green plastic tubs that we could use to dump what we didn’t want.

My case didn’t have any Bad Mudder 2s either basic or $upers, nor any Mountain Mauler regular THs.

But, I did find all three ‘first-to-market’ models (each case had one of each) and all four K-Day exclusive recolors (two of each), plus an Integra and DB10.

There were $upers (no more than two) and Regular THs (no more than three), but they were snatched up immediately.

Nobody found a single Escort RS1600 in any of the cases, surprisingly, and the So Plowed and Grass Chompers also got snatched up faster than a bag of Tostitos on Super Bowl Sunday. Fortunately, I got both.

Some of the others, like the Tesla, Jet Threat, and Honda Racer were found digging through what was left after everyone was done with their drawn cases.

We were also allowed to use our emptied cases to carry the cars we buy instead of plastic bags. I plan to use my case for diecast storage, or possibly as a basis for a custom made showroom for my bookshelf display in the future.

Anyway, here’s what I scored at my first K-Day, presented in the style of The Lamley Group’s Case Reports, three at a time (though I only picked up 17 cars, including 2 first-to-markets and 4 exclusive recolors, so it’s not a FULL case).

After I left Kmart, with a smile on my face and case of cars in hand, I went to a Walmart I hadn’t been to since July, and where I got the complete Porsche Series.

There, I had a bit of a diecast shopping spree.

Starting with me finally grabbing a Nissan 180SX Type X in GReddy livery.

Then, I completed the Star Wars Pop Culture set with the Volkswagen Drag Truck.

I also got two M2 Machines VW Delivery Vans, the US-spec service van and the Euro-spec Goodyear Wild Cards van with the entire livery in German (I think).

Next up, a NASCAR HAWL, a day before the Daytona 500.

And, I rounded up my trip with the latest Matchbox 5-Pack: Exotic.

Next, I went to a Pep Boys to look at their selection, walked out with last year’s Corkscrew Buggy Regular TH.

Lastly, I went to a Walmart that I usually have some good HAWLS, and was surprised by a dump bin full of D, E, and F batch cars.

Here, I got my hands on the regular version of Bad Mudder 2, Dragon Buster, the red Escort, a spare Integra to DLM, and a surprise at the bottom of the bin, a Mountain Mauler Regular TH.

So, all in all, I came home with the spoils from my first K-Day, two regular THs, some NASCAR diecast, and a whole lot more. I’d say that was a good day, right?
