It’s another sad day for Hot Wheels collectors today, as another wave of Kmart and Sears locations have been announced to be closing as part of announcing they will be filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
On a personal note, among that list is Kmart store #3600 (seen above), located in ViaPort Rotterdam (formerly Rotterdam Square Mall). This, for the last couple years, has been my only available Kmart and my KDay go-to.
Liquidation sales are expected to begin in two weeks, making this weekend’s Collector’s Day event the last one that this store will hold, and the last one that I will be able to attend.
The Rotterdam location joins four other Kmart locations in the state of NY that will be closing, including #9415 in Mahopac, #4741 in Batavia, #4123 in Niagra Falls, and #9392 in West Seneca.
Surprisingly, store #4928 in Queensbury will remain open, but that’s too far away for me to go to at 9 in the morning.
I’m curious to know how many of us will be directly affected by this from a collector’s standpoint. A sad day, indeed.
