I am finally getting around to my first post. I’ve lurked this site for some time, finally felt comfortable enough to request authorship, and now am actually doing some authoring. This post is my Matchbox “King Size” Racing Transporter. I’ve seen several old-school ones on LaLD, but haven’t yet seen one of these. This is numbered K-7 in the series, and has a copyright on the base of 1972. It looks vaguely to me like the old GMC motorhome, that became the urban assault vehicle in STRIPES.

I became a serious Formula 1 nut when I was about ten or eleven, even though it was not widely covered, even by “Wide World of Sports”. A friend from the neighborhood had this in his collection, and I offered him cash money for it. Since he had moved on to other interests, he basically gave it to me, which made me very happy. Trouble was, I had no F1 cars to put in it. So it did duty hauling the Mongoose and Snake (remember those) to and from Orange Track Speedway in my parents basement.

My parents never got rid of my die-casts, fortunately for me, and I recently liberated the two twelve-car and one 48 car cases from my Dad’s place. The plan is to post some of these spotty treasures as I feel compelled.

But this guy I felt had to come first. The other cars in the pics are a Tomica M26 McLaren, copyrighted 1978, and an HW cast from 1999, no type given, that appears to have been a Happy Meal toy. The Tomica was a loose buy at the swap meet.

The pictures aren’t exactly quality, for which I apologize, but you can see some of the features, the sliding ramp and gull-wing doors. Enjoy, and I’ll be back soon with more treasures from my youth. Which started fifty years ago today. Shameless plug.
