Since dtg11 now allows one entry per scale a day, I’m going to be showing two cars this ‘Murica Monday, one 1/64 and one 1/43, neither very typical of American cars. Here’s the 1/43.

It’s a 1960 Chevy Covair by Corgi! Since the original Corvair was revolutionay in terms of design at the time, it makes since that Corgi would introduce one into it’s range. They chose the sedan, but probably only because the more popular Corvair Monza Coupe wouldn’t come out for another few years.

Corgi did a great job with this one. The details are all there, and they modeled the “flying wing” roof perfectly.

Out back, Corgi detailed the tailights, and the put a popular period accessory, a rear window blind, in the back window. But one of the most interesting things about the Corvair is the air cooled rear engine.

. . . and Corgi did that too, in great detail. Air cleaner, carb, ports, and even the battery is there. The fact that this much work was put into a children’s toy amazes me.

Here’s a side profile shot showing the Corvair’s famous high beltline. Corgi put a lot detail into the casting of this car, not just the details, as you can tell by the doorhandles.

The front end was also very well designed and detailed as well. The for headlights are painted, as well as the bumper and grill badge.

All in all, I’d say this a fantastic casting that everyone should have. They aren’t too expensive (only paid $12 for mine, but I found it on Auctionzip), and for the price, you can’t get better detail.

Happy car week!
