As I alluded to yesterday, I received a box in the mail from R32Rennsport. I was expecting a HWEP from him, but this box certainly seemed larger than I was expecting. Lo and behold, R32 was also my Secret Super! Without further ado, here’s what the box contained.
Some recent MBX releases. The Cayman and Rangie were Secret Super, and the rest HWEP. As you can see, I already DLM’d the Chrysler and Hakosuka Skyline; the rest of the carded cars in this post will be freed from the plastic cage, but I decided to do one or two a day until Christmas.
The Jag F Type and BMW 1-Series were SS, and the Volvo HWEP. The Chrysler and Hakosuka made a cameo appearance here as well; I really like a Chrysler, and it’s probably my current choice for 2016 Model of the Year. Of course, I do have a few I haven’t opened yet.
The Datsun 510 and Fairlady, both from the SS package. These two compliment each other well.
Morris Mini (HWEP), Lotus Elise, and Ford GT. The Mini is one of the older ones with a removable body, and I didn’t even realize the Lotus existed in HW form.
HW Car Culture trucks. I haven’t opened the BRAT or Datsun (the SS gift), but the Ranchero is extremely well done, IMO.
Car Culture Hakosuka and Real Riders Porsche 917-K. The HW Skyline provides a nice contrast to the Matchbox.
Two HW Jagggggg race cars, a D Type and a Project 7. I’m pretty sure the Project 7 is intended to emulate the D Type.
Lesney Original reissues from the 1990s. These are as close as I’ll come to owning an original Lesney, as they’re absurdly expensive. Plus, the tractor adds to my ever-growing MBX tractor collection.
HW BMW 3.0 CSL. This is a great model, but HW quality control issues are annoying. I’m still happy to have it in my collection.
HW Retro Alfa Romeo Giula and Porsche 964. These are fantastically done by HW; both are excellent choices for New Models and have good liveries. They were DLM’d within 5 minutes after I opened the package.
I may need to build a track diorama . . .
A HW 1996 Dodge Ram stock truck.
The tampos are super detailed for something that would have sold for $1 new.
A Tomica Hino Prince Fire Engine. I’m curious to know the story on this one; R32, if you’re reading this, where did you find it? It matches my beater Lesney fire engines very well, and actually is in a lot better shape than rhe picture leads you to believe; all it really needs is new paint.
This is one my favorite gifts in the Secret Super lot. An M2 Machines Vw Transporter, complete with advertising logos.
The logos are very well done, and it has a low, custom looking stance. Plus, it has the front spotlight which was an actual aftermarket part for VWs in the day. I think the black over green color combo is pretty sweet too.
This GL Hitch and Tow Chevy C10 is also a fav. IMO, this is the perfect C10; simple, utilitarian, and base trim.
I believe the Virginia DoT used trucks very similar to this.
R32 also threw in a whole bunch of awesome stickers! You can’t see all of them here; I might post individual pics on Oppo. I think these would look good on a vintage racer . . .
A Welly 1:24 scale Audi R8. This was one of the larger Secret Super items in the box.
This model is very detailed for a low/mid market 1:24, particularly on the interior. Welly has really upped their game in the past couple of years. The missing side mirror came undone in shipping, but it’ll be glued back soon.
Of course, the Audi’s reign as top 1:24 Supercar couldn’t go unchallenged.
Ladies and gentlemen, behold the Ferrari TheFerrari as rendered by Bburbago. While most of y’all have geaduated to Autoarts and the like, I’m a noob to the large scale world, and as far as I’m concerned this is fantastic. The interior, wheels, and engine all have (IMO) above average detail, and the car has a weight to it which makes it feel high quality. Plus, the LaFerrari is my favorite of the hypercar trio, which may be why I’m cutting this model so much slack.
That’s everything. Huge thanks to Mr. R32Rennsport for being so generous, and thanks to Frosted for organizing all of this. Happy Holidays!
