[REVIEW] 1962 Ford Thunderbird Promotional Model

And now for something completely different. A few days ago, UWerik posted a nice summary of his 58 T-Bird promo, and remarked that he'd like to see my 62. So here it is.

This is a promotional model for a 1962 Ford Thunderbird. It is roughly 1:24 scale, and I believe these were made by AMT. The castings for these were used in model kits and large scale slot cars, so they have a good amount of detail, but nothing opens. These were offered in a variety of colors, and mine is maybe the most boring, a kind of creamy white:

Proportion is virtually perfect, and small details such as emblems and trim are likewise. One can see at the top of the A-pillar/windshield that this was also easily made into a convertible:

Front and rear bumpers and chrome are plastic, over the past 53 years it has experienced a little fading. Rear lenses are a nice touch.

Interior also has excellent detail:

The undercarriage also has excellent detail, along with promotional info regarding features: "Thunderbird...unique in all the world".

These promo models aren't too hard to find - I think they were freely given to dealership employees and buyers of new cars back in the day. This one has some sentimental value to me, as my late father gave it to me after finding it at a sale in the 90s. I have couple other promos too. Not diecast, but still an interesting historical note, and some people avidly collect these.
