Tomica time is here again. Today we examine a relatively obscure casting, F14, the AMC Pacer. There were at least a couple other diecast Pacers - a HW (wagon) and a nice Corgi made in a couple scales. This may be the lesser known brand, but as usual for Tomica of this period, quality is as good or better as anyone:
This model was in the range from April 1977 to September 1979 - a relatively short run. Scale is claimed to be a believable 1:64 - small, but it is chunky like the real car. Nothing opens, which makes this a solid and heavy feeling piece. From all angles, it is a quality casting:
Front and rear are just as nice, and it might not be apparent in pics, but the interior is nicely detailed. The “Pacer” script (in accurate font) on the hood is a nice touch:
Undercarriage has nice detail, typical of the brand and era:
This one is lucky enough to have a box, which is relatively uncommon:
I am very pleased to have this, especially with the box. I remember when I was a kid in the 80s, and these were unloved old used cars. I thought they were one of the worst things, esp the wagons. But now I can appreciate them for being daring, and the styling is better (coupe more than wagon) through my more mature eyes:
The real thing:
(note - I reposted this, as kinja, being the flaming pile of crap that it is, gave me difficulties the first time around. I don’t know if this will be viewable. Nice software).
