[REVIEW] Tomica Honda Civic GL

Tomica time again. Today we examine Tomica 83-2, the Honda Civic GL. This model entered the range in October 1977, and was in production through the mid 80s. It’s a cute little car:

Scale claims to be 1:57, and I believe this is accurate. This is a larger than usual scale, but the real car is quite small - the casting is still somewhat small, so this makes sense. It has rally tampos on horizontal surfaces, and hockey stick stickers/decals on the doors. This model sits on gold button wheels, has plenty of detail from all angles, and all of the features we associate with vintage Tomica - springy suspension, crisp door action, and nice glazing:

It features a detailed interior, and the steering wheel design appears to be accurate:

Front and rear detail are high quality too - fog lights in front and cast in badging at rear are a nice touch:

The base is metal with detail, adding to the quality feel. This model was sold widely as a “Pocket Cars”, and is not rare, I don’t think mine cost more than $10 delivered:

A charming model that I am happy to have. This one also means something to me - I remember this casting from when I was a little kid. Not this exact one of course, as my original was driven to pieces and discarded. But I had this model back in the day, I remember it very well, with the specific tampos. I remember I was fond of it, carrying it in my pocket, taking it to kindergarten (or preschool, hazy memory), I seem to recall putting gum in my pocket and having it tangle with the car. When I bought this and opened it, I felt the nostalgia:
