[REVIEW] Tomica Porsche 928

Tomica time again. It’s been awhile since we have examined a “foreign” Tomica. This is Tomica F53-1, the Porsche 928. This casting entered the range in July 1978, and remained through December, 1980. I have loved the 928 since I was a kid, and this is a nice period piece. The 928 is a difficult shape to model correctly, and Tomica did a good job:

Significant detail can be seen from all sides. Scale claims to be 1:63, I suspect this is accurate. This model has a flashy hood tampo - I also have one without the tampo. Of course, this has the snappy door action, springy springy suspension, and crisp glazing one expects from Tomica of this era. This has all the curves:

Opening doors reveal interior detail and reasonably accurate steering wheel:

Front and rear are just as well done, rear wiper is a nice touch:

Base is metal and has some detail:

This one lives in a nicely illustrated box - most of these I see are loose or carded, as I suspect most went to Pocket Cars distribution (which means if you want one, it won’t be too expensive):

I am happy to have this - not a rarity (there are some rare racing variants of this casting, only seen them in my book), but I love the 928 and got this for a good price:

And a 1:1 early/1978 928 from flussigmagazine.com - an amazing landmark design in my eyes:
