Surprise Saturday - Tomica Dodge Coronets

It’s Saturday once again, time to look at something different. Today we examine multiple variations of the same casting. This is the Tomica Dodge Coronet, a jack-of-all-trades traditional RWD American car that could do everything from grueling service duty to trailer pulling to suburban family cruising. It’s an attractive casting from a time when these cars were common sights on North American roads:

I think this is based on a 1975-76 Coronet. This casting was made in numerous liveries - various police organizations, fire service variants, taxis, and civilian versions. I have five of these - a civilian version, taxi, state police, normal (city?) police, and fire chief. These are Tomica F8-1, F9-1, F10-1, F18-1. These were in the range from 1976-1980, and there are numerous other variations I don’t have. Scale claims to be 1:74 - I believe this, the real car is not small, and it had to fit in a standard box. They are nice period pieces, cars one expects to see on Dukes of Hazzard or Smokey and the Bandit:

These are quite common, especially the non-civilian versions. Nearly all of these were sold as Pocket Cars, so unboxed ones will be the rule - I was lucky to find a boxed civilian one at a reasonable price. Unboxed service examples are affordable, mint ones can probably be found for around $10. Civilian variants are more expensive. These will eventually be featured in normal reviews.
