[REVIEW] Tomica Toyota Soarer 2800GT

Tomica time again, also Land of the Rising Sun-day. As last week featured a somewhat later issue (for my collection) Lesney Matchbox, today we have a somewhat newer Tomica. This is Tomica 5-2, the Toyota Soarer 2800GT. This casting entered the range in September, 1981, and is a fine example of Tomica at its prime:

This is a model of a Z10 Soarer, which was a current vehicle for the first half of the 80s. As most likely know, this model eventually became the Lexus SC. This car was a competent luxo-cruiser in its time. Detail abounds from all angles, and the color combo on this is perfect for the times, especially with the gold button wheels. Scale is a claimed 1:65, likely accurate. As expected, this model has the snappy door action, crisp glazing, and springy suspension we know and love about Tomica. This is a good example of what vintage Tomica is all about. From all angles, it is a quality model:

Doors open to reveal a detailed interior and accurate steering wheel:

As many have likely noticed by now, this casting has a fun feature, a sliding sunroof. A number of Tomica of this era had a sunroof, but the sliding model is fairly unique. It opens and closes, but has a plastic piece beneath it, linked to the glazing, I suspect. A fun toy:

The base is metal to add heft and a quality feel, and has ample detail:

This model is lucky enough to live in an original black box:

This is definitely a casting I am happy to have in my collection. I like the 1:1, and the sunroof adds to the enjoyment:
