Tomica time is here again, as always, coinciding with Land of the Rising Sun-day. As I am in Germany right now, a Tomica casting of a German car just makes sense. What could be more German than a sports Beetle? This is Tomica F3-1, the Porsche 911S. This model entered the range in March 1976, and was in production until at least 1986. As you can see, this car has immense appeal:
911S Carrera? Yeah I know, just roll with it. My reference book lists something like 25 variations of this casting, and there might be more. Scale is a claimed 1:61, likely accurate. There is plenty of fine detail, and proportion is as good as one can expect - these rounded fastback cars are very hard to replicate perfectly. This sits on button wheels, but the wider racing wheels would really look cool on this too, in my opinion. One could also pretend these are some kind of Fuchs variety. Of course, there is springy suspension, crisp glazing, and the snappy door action we all love from Tomica. From all angles, there’s no mistaking this car:

Front and rear have similar detail. This model has some silver detailing at the badge, license plates, and rear - not sure if this is factory or from a prior owner, but it is done with precision, so it works either way.
The base is plastic, with more detail - only so much to do with rear engine RWD:

I am definitely happy to have this in my collection. I had a couple variants of this casting, but I wanted one of the fancy tampo versions. I was patient, and lucked out on this one at a fair price. I wanted a “Carrera” model specifically. This color combo makes it that much better:
