It’s Saturday, always a nice day, time again for something different. Today we take a look at a precise miniature. This is Busch 44254, the Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse (S212) T-Modell. This is a 1:87 / HO Scale model, cast in plastic, in the exacting German tradition. As one can see, it is sometimes hard to believe this model is so small:
This was one of my finds in the bargain bin at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg. I didn’t particularly need it, but for a few Euro, I couldn’t resist it - it’s a MB, and my DD is a 212. This is a pre-facelift car with first style “hockey stick” LED running lights, making it a 2009-11 production car. As common on real world vehicles, this model is debaged, and the packaging gives no clue as to the exact model. With the running lights, it is a well-equipped example. Nothing opens, but that’s not the point - this exists to shown what can be done at a small scale. Detail is amazing from all angles - the lenses, the delicate roof rails, the accurate wheels - without knowing this is a 1:87 model, one would believe the pics are of something much larger:
Front and rear have similar quality detail. The hood star is a nice touch, I love the lenses, and it even has an accurately modeled interior viewable through the crisp precise glazing:
The base has ample detail for something of its size:
This example lives in a nice clear box to give a view from different angles:
Hidden under the car is a pair of accessory side view mirrors:
I am happy to have this, it is a nice souvenir, and as I have had a few 212s, I know the cars. It’s also an excellent piece of modeling skill:
