Another Tomica for LaLD ///May. This one has been seen before, here it is again. This is Tomica F30-1, the BMW 3.5 CSL (E9). This casting entered the range in September 1977, and represents an iconic BMW model:
This casting fitting LaLD ///May is one I have reviewed before, but I figured why not again. The E9 is a beautiful design, and these racing variants are legendary. This Tomica casting is everything one would expect - with crisp glazing, snappy door action, and springy suspension. The racing wheels are perfect for this model, and the mix of tampos and stickers are acceptably precise. Scale is listed as 1:60, likely accurate as usual. From all angles, there’s no mistaking this car for another:
Doors open to reveal a detailed interior with accurate interior, and accurate for a racing car, no passenger seat:
Front and rear have similar detail, the spoiler is handled well enough for something of this size, the metal would probably be too thin to have a blank space in the middle:
The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and contains ample detail:
This example is lucky enough to live in its original F series box:
This is one I am glad to have in my collection, and maybe will find other variants in the future - there were several. This is a great 70s racing machine from a time when the brand had style maybe not so present today:
A few 1:1s, one with Gitanes livery and a couple in widebody IMSA form like the casting, from pinterest flickriver and deviantart:
