[REVIEW] Tomica Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX

Tomica time is here again, also one for Land of the Rising Sun-day. This one also could have been part of Radcast, but I controlled myself. This is Tomica 15-4, the Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX. This casting entered the range in April 1984, and is the 80s in vehicle form:

The wedgy Z31, almost an icon of its time, now relatively obscure. These were a pretty hot car in the mid-late 80s (HW and Matchbox also had a casting of this style), and it is hard to find a nice full sized survivor today. Fortunately. Tomicas tend to survive pretty well. This example has ample fine line casting detail, crisp tampos, and a quality paint finish, the niceties we expect from the brand. Scale is claimed to be 1:61, likely accurate. Of course, it has the crisp glazing, springy suspension. and snappy door action we all enjoy about vintage Tomica. From all angles, it is a trip back to the 80s:

Front and rear have similar detail. A prior owner added painted front lights - I am lazy and haven’t tried to remove the yellow, as it doesn’t offend me The rear features a wiper and a lens for the rear lights - lights as lenses are a quality touch I have always enjoyed:

The base is plastic, which allows ample technical and identifying detail:

I am pleased to have this in my collection, as I remember these cars when they were new. I picked this unboxed example up from a local collector for little money, which makes it even better. It would only be better with T-tops (Tomica got into sunroofs, but never embraced T-tops) and pop up lights (like the Lotus Esprit), but it is still a fine casting. Welcome back to the 80s:
