[REVIEW] Tomica Ferrari 308 GTB

Time for another Tomica review. Land of the Rising Sun-day, but this one only fits in via the maker. Today we examine Tomica F35-1, the Ferrari 308 GTB. This casting entered the range in November 1977, and captures the spirit of this famous design:

It’s been awhile since I have featured a Tomica cast of an Italian car - with Lambo week on hold, this seemed like a good time. This model features typical Tomica quality - accurate proportions, ample fine line casting detail, and the color scheme of red with gold wheels definitely reflects on the era. The doors don’t open, but there is crisp glazing and springy suspension, qualities we all enjoy of old Tomica. Scale is claimed to be 1:60, likely accurate - the real world car is not huge, and this size gives it a little more presence. From all angles, you won’t mistake it for anything else:

Front and rear feature similar quality detail, with “Ferrari” cast on the engine cover being a nice touch:

Doors don’t open, instead, this model features an opening engine cover:

Inside, cast in chromed plastic to give it some quirky flash, is the heart of the beast. The interior is on the same chromed plastic casting, and has detail:

The base is plastic, and contains ample technical and identifying detail:

This is another of several upcoming unboxed models, and I am pleased to have it in my collection. I like Ferrari of this era, and this casting is as good as any. And good news for Fezza fans, this one was widely sold as a Pocket Cars, especially in this color/wheel combo, and should be relatively easy to find, and not too expensive. It was also issued in a couple other colors, and with wide/racing wheels - these are all harder to find. A nice period piece from when the brand was a little more raw and pure:
