[REVIEW] Tomica Toyota Corolla Levin

Tomica time is here again, Land of the Rising Sun-day. This is Tomica 78-3, which entered the range in February 1980, remaining until October 1983. Back to the 80s we go:

This is from a time when “Corolla” was more than a low-risk appliance commuter car. At one time, there were numerous bodystyles for the Corolla, and some were relatively sporty. This casting is a nice example of the TE71 Levin. Fine line casting detail is on every surface, while proportion appears correct. Scale is claimed to be 1:61, likely accurate. The blue color and period correct tampo are excellent, I think this is the best color scheme for this casting. This model features the crisp glazing, springy suspension, and snappy door action we all know and love about vintage Tomica. From all angles, it is an attractive car:

Front and rear also contain excellent detail, with “Toyota” cast into the grille, and the rear wiper and heating elements being nice touches:

The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and has ample technical and identifying detail:

I am definitely happy to have this unboxed model in my collection. I really like this color, and I think this is the best variant aside from the version with a pocket bike on the roof (that’s one for my want list). It’s a pretty piece:
