[REVIEW] Lesney Matchbox Foden Sugar Container - another one

Lesney Matchbox time is here again, time again for another unboxed model and one that is an actual Matchbox, no tricks this time. This is Lesney Matchbox 10c, the Foden Sugar Container. This casting entered the range in 1960, remaining until 1966, and is a vehicle not seen much in the 21st century:

This one is different, and loose. 10c is based on a Foden F21 truck, a 50s design considered to be quite wild at the time. As this casting is from 1960, it lacks glazing or moving parts, but still features ample fine casting detail, decals of the highest quality, along with good proportions.  Scale is probably in the 1:75 range.  There’s a little light playwear, as found on the castings from this source - this came from the estate sale last year where I lucked out and found a cache of scarce castings and variants, all from perhaps the pinnacle of regular wheels models in the early 60s. From all angles, this is still an attractive truck even with a little patina:

Front and rear have similar detail, the finely detailed mask-painted grille being a nice touch:

The base is relatively basic, the style of the time, and contains identifying data. This example, with earlier style knobby tread black plastic wheels, dates from perhaps 1963 or so, and the lack of axle and wheel wear points to gentle treatment:

I am no doubt pleased to have this in my collection. I paid very little for this, and it is part of the memories of that fun sale, where I found the rare Cresta, among others, and this is a nice casting overall:
