[REVIEW] Majorette Peugeot 604

Lesney Matchbox time...oh wait, that’s not it. This is the final non-Tomica unboxed review, and another that isn’t a Matchbox. Today we examine Majorette 238, the Peugeot 604. This casting entered the range in 1977, remaining until 1983, and is a fine piece from a Matchbox competitor:

The 604, a Peugeot foray into the upscale larger car market, and a scarce car today, and it fits in a week after Bastille Day. Majorette captures it with style, and there weren’t many other castings of this car. One may remember this casting from years ago, it was one of my early reviews, and is another I decided to update into this format. This model features excellent proportion and fine line casting detail, and with the yellow glazing, has the charm of period Majorette. Firm suspension and an opening hood add to the realism of this casting, and the three spoke wheels, which apparently date this to 1979-80, look perfect. There is a detailed interior with contrasting steering wheel, a nice touch. Scale is claimed to be 1:60, likely accurate. From all angles, this is a quality item:

Front and rear have similar quality detail, with “604" cast on the hood and the lion in the grille being well-done, the French style plates adding realism, and the tow hook adding play value:

The opening hood is the main feature of this model, and lifts to reveal a fairly detailed engine where one can even count the spark plugs and see the air cleaner:

The base is metal, typical for Majorette of this era, and adds heft along with containing identifying data:

This is definitely a model I am happy to have in the loose section of my collection. Majorette of this era tend to be high quality castings, and this competes with the best of them. I also have memories of seeing 604s when I was a kid, and I kind of like the real world car, so I like the casting as well. And I even like the color, just a pleasing piece:
