My entries for Car Week start with something that’s pretty new relative to my collection (but the pics are several years old). This is Tomica 24, the Toyota RAV4. This casting dates to 1995, and couldn’t be more 90s:
One may notice these pics aren’t my usual format, I took these way back before I had the foldio, and back when phone cameras weren’t as advanced. I didn’t have time to take new pics for this event, so you take what you can get. This casting doesn’t disappoint, if one is looking for something from that great decade. The first gen RAV4 was a harbinger of things to come in the soft-road segment, and these 2 door models are fairly scarce now in this part of the world. This is one of the earlier Tomica castings to be made in China, but the quality appears fine, detail and proportion are as good as anything in the 1:64 segment. The color suits this rig, and the tampo is very 90s. You can just hear the stereo playing Macarena as you take off for the mall cinemas to see Independence Day:
The base shows off the knobby tires:
Still in its original box, and I am the original owner. I picked up a handful of then-current Tomica around 1995, and still have them, never would have imagined they’d be kind of a retro thing now. One may notice this casting has just a little superdetailing, something I did back in the day. A fun blast from the past, maybe I’ll get some better pics of it sometime:
A 1:1 from car.info, even has the same graphics:
