[REVIEW] Tomica Porsche 935 - 78 Turbo

Tomica time, Land of the Rising Sun-day, is here again, and once again only via maker of today’s model. Today we examine Tomica F10-2, the Porsche 935. This casting entered the range in May 1979, and is a kind of car some here like:

The 935, an ultimate (2WD) evolution of the sports Beetle. Tomica had a thing for Porsche of this era, modeling several cars, including a few varieties of the 911/930. This car represents what was maybe the highest racing variant of the time, the “Moby Dick” cars. Tomica casts it in fine style, with accurate proportion (not always easy for these cars) and ample fine casting detail. If you like decals and tampos, this casting has them by the ton, all of them handling the past ~40 years without issue. Scale is claimed to be 1:63, likely accurate. This model features the crisp glazing and springy suspension we all enjoy in old Tomica, but nothing opens. This doesn’t detract, and one can imagine zooming around a track during those heady days of Le Mans-style racing:

Front and rear contain similar attention to detail. The entirely free-standing rear spoiler is a nice touch:

The base is plastic, a trend of the time, and contains technical and identifying detail:

This is a nice example of period racing which I am happy to have in my collection. The casting exists in 3 variants - a red and white style, this black heavily decorated style, and a red white and blue style as seen on the box. I’ve only ever seen the red and white style, other than this black one. I thought the black one might be less common, so this is the one I went for when a local collector was selling unwanted castings:
