[REVIEW] Tomica Honda 1300 Coupe 9

Land of the Rising Sun-day, Tomica Time for me, is here again. We’ve had a few red vehicles recently, here’s another. This is Tomica 7-1, the Honda 1300 Coupe 9. This casting entered the range in December 1970, remaining until March 1975, and is a trip back to the early days:

I am sticking around here as well as posting to Drivetribe, at least for the time being.

We go back to the beginning with this review - this was the 7th model introduced to the Tomica line. It shows traits typical of early castings - no side glazing, paint that seems just a little thicker, and more simple (but still quite decent) interior detail. Tomica was already on the fine line casting detail ideal, and this model has plenty. Scale is claimed to be 1:60, likely accurate. This casting exists only on various types of old wheels. Door action isn’t as snappy as later models, but the glazing is nice, and the suspension is springy as we all like. From all angles, one can see Tomy was starting off on the right foot with Tomica cars:

Doors open to reveal interior detail:

Front and rear have similar detail, the finely cast front end along with rear detail and badges on the trunklid are nice touches:

The base is metal, as were all early castings I am aware of, and features technical and identifying detail:

This casting is lucky enough to live in its original black box:

No doubt I am pleased to have this casting in my collection. It has historical interest, being such an early item, and there can’t be many castings out there of this car:
