I know there is too many cooks today so I figured one more wouldn’t hurt. Can you believe I got this for just $8? I’m still in shock. It’s a cast I’ve been after forever and once was scammed out of by a poor ebay seller. This was a perfect cast but looked like someone had bent the left side door holding it too firmly. That or it came form Tomica with the flaw. Either way I had the tools to fix it.
The tools needed are just some electrical tape and a set of round nose pliers. I simply wrapped the electrical tape around them to prevent damaging the paint. All you have to do it grab from the underside of the door and watch the top as you apply lateral force with you wrist in the direction you need to bend the door.
Just go gently that way if you inadvertently go to far you can just twist the pliers the other way to correct it. As for axles they can also be repaired with girls jewelry tools.
I stepped on this one but fixing is pretty easy. It is much easier with Tomica because the axles are thinner and easy to shape but this is a Matchbox axle. I’ve repaired worse but it helps to start easy and develop your own method. You will need a set of nylon wire straighteners. Just slide the wheels away as you bend the axle as straight as you can get it.
Once the axle is relatively back in shape you can use the nylon straightener to slide up and down the axle. this also requires a little lateral torque from the wrists whilst sliding to help bend it in the direction you want. The Nylon plastic will do most of the job for you so it just takes a your intuition on when to give it a little torque.
Hope this will help anyone with similar problems. I know I have saved quite a few otherwise good casts this way. I know a few of my Tomica I was only able to purchase because they had flaws but most flaws add character or can be fixed with a little effort.
