LaLD's Wall-D Awards VS Lamley's 2014 Awards (AKA Why we are right)

We love the Lamley Group here at LaLD. They are the primary source for news and great photos (many of which we have featured here and I, especially, are very much appreciative of their generousity). Also, the headline is a bit of a joke since there really isn't such a thing as a "wrong" pick. We like what we like, after all. :)

With that said...let's compare.

Best New Model

Lamley: Porsche 934 Turbo RSR (runners up: Datsun 620, Civic EF)

Wall-D: 1965 Aston Martin DB5 (also nominated: Porsche, Datsun, So-Plowed,

Alfa 8C)

Can't argue with that choice at all. Two (of five) admins nominated the Porsche. The Datsun also was picked. It's really awesome. The So-Plowed was ineligible for Lamley's awards due to it not being a licensed model.

The (imagined) beef: That Civic EF. Maybe the casting is fine... The idea of a 1990 Civic hatch is really impressive.... but Hot Wheels didn't finish the job. They selected great, perfect choices for the colors and yet they couldn't be bothered to align a tampo. I've never seen a stupidly egregious error like this one. Not just on the first version of the diecast, which would be kind of understandable, but then on the second as well. Tell me if you can un-see this:

Best Treasure Hunt

Lamley: La Fasta

Wall-D: Poison Arrow

The (imagined) beef: It would be silly to argue over this one (especially since we brought in a 7 year old "expert" for our pick)....still I would feel remiss if I didn't point out just how disappointing the La Fasta is. It looks great in photos but undeniably underwhelms in person. Perhaps Hot Wheels should just license the Pantera and give it a proper casting and name?

Best Super Treasure Hunt

Lamley: Mustang Mach 1 (runners-up: Greenwood Corvette, Bel-Air Gasser)

Wall-D: Datsun

The (imagined) beef: Nothing really, my only minor issue would be that I feel I've seen enough Mustangs for life. The Datsun is not the first JDM Super, but it seems to be the most anticipated and the one that drove collector's into an insane frenzy. It also looks pretty stylish, as well :)

As for the "Worst" picks, well LaLD has decided against doing that but I, personally, would like to thank the Lamley Group for not throwing the Twin Mill Super under the proverbial bus. The Twin Mill remains a classic in my opinion and was nice to see squeezed between all the Fords and Chevys.

Until we (mildly and not really) disagree in 2015, Happy New Year!
