2015 Hot Wheels Ferrari 599xx Mainline on the Left, Super Treasure Hunt on the Right
This is considered an important milestone (wait, no what's the opposite of milestone? Requiem? No, that's not it. Farewell?) model as it is quite likely the last 1:64 Ferrari Hot Wheels will produce for quite some time, as the license has reportedly expired and Maisto/Bburango will take over. The 599xx has also been deemed by some collectors a "better" mainline than Super. Of course everyone is hoping to find the Super but side-by-side, regardless of status, which is actually the superior Ferrari?
First up: The mainline
The Metalflake grey is fairly striking, it reminds me of a darker version of the James Bond Aston paint (which, as you may recall, won the Wall-D for Best New Model in 2014).
Demerit: Look closely at the red ring around the front wheel.
Front headlight tampos, which seem awfully rare on Hot Wheels these days, compliment tasteful hood and side graphics
Demerit: No taillight tampos (also true of the Super), I can't stop looking at those red rings around the wheels
Ferrari 599xx Super
I like that the "TH" isn't incredibly obvious, although I would prefer they did away with that logo altogether. Real Riders are a massive improvement.
Demerit: Spectraflame Black doesn't look all that different from regular black, no rear tampos (again)
Hot Wheels did a really good job on miniaturizing the Ferrari logo. Not once, but 3 times!
The winner? Ferrari Super Treasure Hunt
Despite the Spectraflame not feeling quite as special as maybe it should (The 599xx was released as a Super in 2012 with Spectraflame red) and the missing rear tampos, the wheels really decide this one for me. Perhaps a wheel swap would convince me otherwise, but as released I prefer the Super.
Is this a fitting last Ferrari for Hot Wheels to go out on? Definitely. It's odd that this model was also a Super in 2012, but compared to the other recent Ferrari models Hot Wheels has done, 599xx has to be one of the best with only the LaFerrari really coming close.
If you can get a hold of one it is absolutely a must for your collection!
