Over the weekend I was idly scanning my local Craigslist as temperatures in Portland hit triple digits (again!) Just a general search for Hot Wheels turned up this listing in the “Auto Parts” section:
I am selling off some of my Hot Wheels and other die cast car collection. This is a really hard to find VW Drag Bus in a hard to find metallic green color.....they are going for $60 and up on ebay. I am also selling all of these cars on ebay, so there are no holds.....and they are only available until I get a bid on them.....then the chance to have one is gone. This is not a small one either....it is the 1:18 scale. Cash only and no holds.
The ad was already 3 hours old. I messaged fellow admin Frosted.
I jumped in the car with my son and drove straight to the ATM.
Amazingly the seller was only a dozen blocks or so from me. Also amazingly, the Drag Bus was still available!
And then (for the hat trick of amazement) he brought out a second one!!
The Magenta one was cheaper and had some minor mold spots on the inside of the plastic, so naturally it was DLM’d
Here’s a 1:64 Studa-Breaker (way to get around licensing Mattel) in front of the 1:18 for scale
Regardless it needed to be liberated from its packaging just so we can admire the incredible interior!
Pretty nifty detailing. The steering wheel actually turns the front wheels as well.
As part of the purchase price I was able to add these too!
Finally I’ve become a card-carrying official member of my own blog now, as well! (sorry dtg11 :P )
A Twin Mill snuck into the photo shoot.
Fine, you can have a close-up too...
A recently DLM’d Drag Beetle was a must.
And then the Cool Classics Type 3 Fastback had to join for a bit of an air-cooled family re-union.
Finally, showing off for the camera....
This was definitely one of my most amazing hawls ever. And the seller lives not just in the same city but within just a few blocks! Hope I can manage to deal for a few more! He also builds custom display shelves which hopefully he’ll let me show off soon.
