HAWL Week, Day 2: Target

Welcome to LaLD’s Hawl week! Show off (or link to) the best finds you’ve had at these retailers:

Monday: KMart

Tuesday: Target

Wednesday: WalMart

Thursday: Toys “R” Us

Friday: The Others (Kroger, Meijer, grocery chains)

Saturday: Anywhere, ever!

Yesterday KMart really did very little to move the needle. Either this series is ill-advised or KMart itself has become a desert for collectors. Could be both, admittedly. My most memorable “hawl” from a KMart I declared to be a regular Treasure Hunt, after all. Still I hope KDays keep going for awhile before the whole chain finally goes under.

Another retailer that was once so involved with Hot Wheels they got their own exclusives (a la WalMart or ToysRUs), Target now seems to be that place with 3 cars on the pegs. all. the. time.

C’mon guys.

They did manage to have strangely inexpensive pricing on the late “Cool Classics” series, but that has not stopped my local Target from having the exact same 3 “Astro Funk” models from greeting me every time I visit for the last 6 months. Literally. Anyone want a CC Astro Funk? I think I might know a place...

For me Target is unique amongst the big box (and small box, actually) retailers in that I actually have one I can walk to. I’ve visited Target at all hours on all days. I’ve had bouts of insomnia that led me to be there at opening, during the mid-day, minutes before closing.

As such, if there are hawls to be had, they are few and far between at my local outlet. Yet I have managed to get at least one pretty great score, in the form of the Grateful Dead VW Panel Bus from last year:

For all the days I’ve seen virtually nothing on the pegs, I grabbed this guy one mid-morning. After DLM’ing I posted some pics and yes, Hot Wheels themselves declared one of them a “sick snap”

No corporation’s Twitter account has ever bestowed upon me such praise.
