Gulf Liveries For Everyone [New Releases]

Quite possibly the most popular race livery lately has been Gulf Oil. Recent diecast releases featuring the Gulf blue and orange have included Corvettes, Chevelles, a Porsche 917K, and a Ford GT. Even fantasy castings such as Fast Fish have been given the treatment. And if you spend much time on Instagram you will undoubtedly come across customs of Gulf Oil versions of everything from McLarens to Civics to Beetles. Hoping to further capitalize on this, both Hot Wheels and GMP (Greenlight) are counting on you to snap these up.

Available today for RLC members, and tomorrow evening for the rest of us (if any are left), is the Porsche 993 GT2

Everyone is probably familiar with this casting, the Porsche 993 GT2. Debuting just a few years ago in the (practically mythical now) 2013 Boulevard line, this Jun Imai design has had multiple re-colors and was the 2016 Super Treasure Hunt of E case. I really love this casting and the white one has been the basis for many a custom dye job. The minimal tampos and the “glass” headlights are stellar.

Personally, while I do like the Gulf livery in some instances, this one features too much orange for me. It reminds me of the plastic faux-body cladding on a Subaru Outback or Honda Element (only orange, natch). If it’s more your thing, retail is $19.99. However, if you’re really interested, scalpers are already lining up on eBay: listings from $49.99 to well over $100. So double to quadruple what they actually paid earlier today.

GMP (by Greenlight, although you’d have a hard time connecting those 2 as I can’t find mention of it anywhere on GL’s site or FB. Perhaps they are downplaying the association due to GL’s notorious quality control issues?) released images of their Street Fighter ‘68 Camaro in Gulf Livery.

This model will retail for $139.99. You can pre-order from our friends at Diecast Model Cars in DC. Also available is a Wheel and Tire set ($14.95) as well as a matching trailer ($34.95) to accessorize your Camaro.

Should be shipping in June.

Either of these offerings interest you? Any diecast you’d like to see in Gulf Livery? (Just a cursory look at the hashtag #gulflivery you can find it on everything from socks to cell phone covers to bike frames.) Or have you grown a bit tired with the Gulf motif?
