You may have noticed vintage JDM is somewhat popular at the moment. AutoArt’s 1/18 1971 Nissan Skyline commemorates the 45th anniversary of Japan GP Winner #6 Kunimitsu Takahashi. I just recently took the plunge on my very first AutoArt (a black Mazda RX-7 FD) and I can tell you the level of care and quality of these models is well beyond what you might encounter from a lower-tier manufacturer like Maisto. The AutoArt will definitely be the pinnacle of my collection for quite some time.

LaLD Car Week has shown off that we have plenty of resin collectors. For those who prefer that their investments don’t roll away: Spark’s new Aston Martin DBR1, winner of the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans in the hands of Roy Salvadori (and also some obscure Texan driver named Shelby).

TSM has just released their 1:18 McLaren MP4/5 as driven to victory in the 1989 Monaco Grand Prix by Ayrton Senna. This is a resin model, but in a shocking turn of events, the bodywork can be removed to reveal a fully detailed cockpit and Honda engine! Limited edition of 500 pieces.

The Hako and the Aston will set you back $185 apiece. Meanwhile, one of those 500 McLarens will be a my-wife-can-never-know $230.

If your budget is more limited, my favorite model “on sale” through Model Citizen is this trick 1:18 Honda by AutoArt. Marked down from $145 to just $79 $75! (see comments), there is exactly one left. C’mon it has a moped in the back!
