Beatnik Bandit

Originally built by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth in 1961 as a project for Rod & Custom magazine. Immortalized forever by our dear friends at Hot Wheels.

The window plastic should be here by the end of the week. Here’s how it looked yesterday.

Here it is after 2 hours of work last night.

After another hour or so this morning it was ready for some color.

I used the Lime Away on the body this time before I started with the steel wool.

Now I want to strip the other two and do the same.

I like finding the weird ways that things were attached back then. The way the engine is floating between the interior and body is pretty neat.

Hopefully by the time I get the windshield, I’ll already have the next one.
