Hey LaLD and all Jalops!
The Windy City has been eagerly waiting for the Torchbug and after a great outdooring trip with mycarneverruns87 in Missouri, the lil’ guy finally showed up at my doorstep!
I immediately took him out to show him what Chicago is all about. Click here to see the full set of photos on my Flickr or continue scrolling for the highlights!
Luckily the sun started coming out after a pretty stormy day, it’s as if the universe knew the Torchbug was coming!
So I decided to show him a nice sunset and one of the most gorgeous skylines in the world...
...and we decided to stay for the lights.
The timing was great since the cherry blossoms at work were in bloom and since he didn’t get to stay for the Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C. I figured I’d show him this once-a-year spectacle.
I can show you the world!
Really happy with how this blind shot turned out!
He stopped to ask for directions to the Sears tower. He wanted to go to the top so badly he got a bit ambitious:
Spiderbug, spiderbug, does whatever spiderbug does...
Brave lil’ guy wasn’t afraid of heights at all!
Instead he chose to stay and watch the sun setting over the horizon,
And then wreak havoc on Wacker Drive as night fell.
I told ya, not afraid of heights at all!
He really loved The Ledge and kept driving around in circles yelling, “I’m flying! I’m flying!”
I finally got him away from there before they closed and showed him the rest of the city, this one looking north towards Hancock, Trump, Aon Center, and a little dab of Millenium Park at the edge.
The south view didn’t have as many tall buildings, but plenty of other stuff to see!
The next outing it was time to check out something truly Jalop: The Windy City Miata Club Autocross event! Props to DeLM for telling me about it!
He was impressed by how hard the 911 driver was pushing it
Eventually he decided to line up and take a stab at it...
He started out clipping a few cones though...
So next time he lined up and asked for some tips...
Learned a bit about weight transfer...
And after that he showed them who’s boss!
Once he mastered tarmac, myself (not pictured), StoneCold (pictured), and mini-Biff (also happened to be pictured) agreed that we needed to see how he’d do on some dirt at the StateLine Rallycross in Salem, WI.
So he learned the corners...
The crests...
A bit about the proper tires...
Rollcages...
The necessary safety gear...
And why you need it.
Once he got closer to the action...
And learned some proper technique...
He was ready.
Thanks for following the fun everyone! For more photos from our adventures so far, click here for the Flickr album! It’ll be the same link for all of my photos to come, so you don’t have to hunt through my LaLD posts to see them all!
In the next chapter of our adventure, Torchbug learns about milk and it’s history, more on that early next week!
